How we started popping London’s finest popcorn

Born from a love of film, design, and flavour, Godfrey’s is here to innovate and breathe new life into popcorn — a humble snack with huge potential for elevation. We’re on a mission to pop the world’s best popcorn and bring joy to every bag.

stories and popcorn go hand in hand

There’s a story behind our famous popcorn. Alfred Godfrey, Luke’s grandfather, was a British soldier during the Second World War. In those turbulent times, cinema became a much-needed escape, and Alfie developed a fondness for the popcorn served at theatres. Driven by a desire to recreate the magic of those moments, he began experimenting with his own popcorn recipes. Before long, his creations far surpassed the quality of what was offered at the local cinema. We can’t say for certain, but Alfie might just have been the first person to sneak in his own popcorn. And so, the legend of Godfrey’s Popcorn was born.

“We saw an opportunity to elevate popcorn, offering an exceptional product with creative brand storytelling. It’s a business but it’s also a creative outlet, weaving art, design and a love for great snacks into something truly special.

Popcorn is the perfect platform for creativity

We’ve seen it happen with coffee right? You can have it black, white, foamed, flavoured and a whole culture was built around that experience. I see the same opportunity here with popcorn. If you’re having coffee in the morning, you’re crunching popcorn while being entertained. It’s a perfect platform to get creative and explore flavour combinations.

it’s more than just business, it’s culture craft.

We set out to establish popcorn as more than just a theatre snack. It’s the compliment to life’s inevitable drama, the good and the bad. It’s a nostoglic comfort in my life, and the identity of Godfrey’s showcases that. It’s more than popcorn, it’s a celebration of entertainment and the arts, paired with exceptional snacking. - Luke Godfrey Co-Founder
